2011 Scholarship Award Winners

June 6, 2011 - Each year the Smith Mountain Arts Council (SMAC) awards scholarships to Bedford and Franklin County students who have excelled in the visual or performing arts and plan to major in the arts in college.


From Franklin County, India Tyree was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. She will be majoring in vocal performance. Also, from Franklin County, Troy Hunter Osborne was awarded a $500 scholarship. His major will be musical theater. India and Troy were voted most musically talented by their senior classmates.

In Bedford County, Staunton River High School's Taylor Jennings was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. She plays the flute and her major will be music performance. Also from Staunton River High School, Codey Turner was granted a $500 scholarship. His major will be trumpet performance.


All of these students value the arts and have goals in which they aspire to continue sharing their talents through performance and, in some instances, teaching or mentoring others. SMAC wishes them all success.
