The Smith Mountain Arts Council is pleased to announce that the judges for the 19th annual John Faber Memorial Photo Contest and Show will be Bob Brown, senior photographer at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and Siobhan Byrns, Assistant Professor of Photography and Graphic Design at Lynchburg College.

Bob Brown, a Rockbridge County native, joined the Richmond Times-Dispatch photo staff in 1968 after working in television for the previous 10 years. He has been Virginia News Photographer of the Year three times, won various local, regional and national awards for photography and is the first photojournalist inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame.

Siobhan Byrns received her Masters of Fine Art in photography from the Art Institute of Chicago and received her Bachelors of Fine Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art, focusing both on traditional and time-based new media. While a graduate student, she was formally trained as a fine art restorationist and conservator in some of the country's most prominent museums. While working in the Museum of The Art Institute of Chicago, she assisted in the digital restoration of Georges Seurat's A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. Currently, her research focuses on early historic photographic processes and alternative sustainable artistic methods. She also maintains an active artistic career and has participated in numerous one-person and group exhibitions.
