Painting and Dreaming in Provence
When: May 1 - June 1 2010
Where: Westlake Library
Westlake Library will host an exhibit of paintings based on a two week workshop held in May, 2009 led by artists Vera Dickerson and Robin Poteet from The Studio School in Roanoke. The group of 34 painters, spouses and friends settled into the relaxed pace of village life on a renovated estate at the edge of Noves, a town of 4000 near Avignon. Days, almost entirely blue-skied, were filled with visits to local weekly markets, climbing to ruined chateaus or abbys, painting in the old streets or just relaxing at a cafe while watching a game of patanque. Life can be hard!
Nineteen of those artists now present their interpretations of those blissful days. Those exhibiting are: Vera Dickerson and Robin Poteet, with their group of Nancy Brown, Carole Davis, Julie Gale, Revelle Hamilton, Myrtle Hooker, Vivian Nelson, Donna Nevers, Pam Ogden, Suzy Peverall, Cathy Powell, Sally Randles, Martha Rhodes, Marvi Stine, Petie Stringfellow, Bill and Linda White.
These images will take the viewer along tree-lined lanes to overlook old tile roofed villages, up streets where the bakeries provide the staples of life twice daily, into the vividly colored markets, along the Mediterranean coast and into the perched villages of the Luberon mountains.
The exhibit will hang from May 1 to June 1, 2010, open during library hours.
