2010 Scholarship Award Winners
This year, SMAC awarded four scholarships:
Devin Johnson, a Franklin Co. home school student was awarded $1,000. She will be majoring in Art. Ed. at Hollins University.
Renae Dower, a Franklin Co. High School graduate was awarded $500. She will be majoring in the fine arts at Roanoke College.
Hilary Farnam, a Bedford Co. graduate of Staunton River High School was awarded $1,000. She will be majoring in Art at VA Commonwealth University.
Leilani Dade, a Staunton River graduate was awarded $500. She will be majoring in the fine arts at Hollins University.

Smith Mountain Arts Council - Fine Arts Scholarships
Each year, the Smith Mountain Arts Council awards a number of Fine Arts Scholarships to students who demonstrate proficiency in the visual, performing, or literary arts and who attend either Staunton River HS, Franklin County HS, or are home-schooled or at private schools and live within those school boundaries.
Students dedicated to pursuing full time study at a two or four year college in any art-related endeavor are encouraged to apply.
2010 Fine Arts Scholarship Information
High school seniors, the deadline for applying for the Smith Mountain Arts Council (SMAC) annual Fine Arts Scholarship is March 19, 2010. This competition is open to seniors who attend Staunton River High, Franklin County high, or a private school, or are home schooled. Students must live in the area covered by either of the public high schools.
To qualify, students must be dedicated to pursuing a full-time course of study at a 2- or 4-year accredited college, community college or university in the performing arts, visual arts, or any other art-related curriculum.
Students must register as a full-time freshman and carry a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester. For students attending a community college, they must indicate a fine arts specialization at the time of registration to qualify.
Up to $1000 for tuition will be awarded to each recipient. SMAC may grant multiple awards.

Beat the winter blues by meeting the deadlines for application. Submit your application to your guidance counselor by March 5 and to Quita Schweitzer no later than March 19, 2010. E-mail applications will not be accepted.
The Smith Mountain Arts Council (SMAC), established in 1989, is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and serves a large geographic area surrounding Smith Mountain Lake.
