Lake Writers
The Lake Writers is a group of writers from around the Smith Mountain Lake area. The group includes writers of fiction, nonfiction, drama, and poetry. Some are published writers, and some are aspiring to getting their work published.
The Lake Writers meet monthly on the second and fourth Fridays from 10 am to noon. The first meeting is at the Moneta/SML Library near Downtown Moneta; the second meeting is at Trinity Ecumenical Parish off Route 122.

A New Anthology from Lake Writers
It Started with a Shot is now available on Amazon. All proceeds from the sale of this book benefit the Smith Mountain Arts Council, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that connects the arts and community around Smith Mountain Lake.
It started with a shot. What images do these five little words evoke? A toast? A bullet? A photograph? A vaccine? What story would you write if this was your writing prompt?
This was the challenge that Lake Writers (the literary branch of the Smith Mountain Arts Council) embarked on last year. The result is their fifth anthology, It Started with a Shot, a collection of wildly different creative pieces all beginning with the same five words. The anthology features a diverse mix of stories and essays—funny, mysterious, thoughtful, and provocative—proving that one shot of inspiration can lead us anywhere.
