Community

The Smith Mountain Arts Council (SMAC) offers a number of arts related services to the community. These include annual awards of Fine Arts Scholarships, a Student Outreach Program, and two musical groups the B-Sharps and the Noteables, that entertain at senior facilities throughout the year.

The Smith Mountain Arts Council awards up to two $2,000 two year college scholarships for high school seniors demonstrating talent in the Performing, Visual or Literary Arts.

Purpose:  To share the arts within the Smith Mountain Lake Youth Community.  To expose children to the arts and help them discover their talents. This experience is designed for youth ages 8-15.

Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) is a program that teaches elementary and middle school students how to play Appalachian music on guitar, banjo and fiddle.

B-Sharps

This musical group of eighteen men and women sing popular songs of the 40s and 50s in nursing homes, adult day care centers, adult living centers and at planned senior functions.

Noteables

This musical group of fifteen women performs a light-hearted repertoire of oldies at nursing homes and other senior facilities throughout the year.
