Remembering Marty Bowers, SMAC Treasurer
The Smith Mountain Arts Council honors Martha (Marty) Bowers, who recently passed away after battling cancer. As our treasurer for nearly thirty years, Marty was a vital board member and friend who ensured the arts thrived in the Smith Mountain Lake area. She was deeply involved in multiple organizations and contributed her passion and expertise significantly to the Smith Mountain Lake community.
To honor her contributions, we have decided to rename our current SMAC Scholarships to high school students as the Martha Bowers Memorial SMAC Scholarship. This renaming will be effective starting in 2026 and allows her legacy of volunteerism and support for the arts to continue impacting our youth programs. Our hearts and prayers are with her family. Her vibrant personality will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
